OB Obituaries
|
We
are sad to pass on news of the death of OB Col Tresham Gregg (32-37) who
had an amazing Army career. Read his Obituary from the Telegraph
here. Coincidentally, his brave
actions Italy took place only around 20km from Val Tidone, where the OB
Club is running a trip in July.
We
always appreciate family and friends passing on Obituaries which we
publish in the Ousel annually. Contact us.

Dear Old
Bedfordian
|
We have just returned from a long weekend in Normandy on the OB
Battlefield Tour. It was fantastic to see the OBs forming a friendly
united group, most of whom had never met each other before, and would
encourage anyone who is thinking of joining us on a future trip or at an
event to go for it! You and your guests will receive a warm welcome.
Throughout
these Easter holidays we have been kept busy, with eleven events on the OB Club calendar coming up in May and more thereafter! More details
will be in our EVENTS email, out soon.
At
the end of the term, boys at the School were also busy - the team won the
2014 Rosslyn Park National School Sevens Festival. Read more here. We also have the results of the postponed School's Head of
the River, which the Head Master mentions in his e-bulletin, here.
Wishing
you all a Happy Easter.
Regards,
Richard,
Gina and Alex

From the Head
Master...
|
A busy end of term approaches; for
example, today itself (Wednesday as I write) sees the National Rosslyn
Park Sevens, the Annual General Inspection (AGI) of the CCF, and the Boat
Club competing at one of the three big annual rowing events, the Schools'
Head. Admittedly the latter was delayed from earlier in the term due to
the water levels on the Thames, so it is not normally quite as hectic,
but it is a fair reflection of exactly what we want: a busy school... Read

OB Council welcomes future Head Master
OB Club President, Sandy Gray, was delighted that future Head Master
James Hodgson took up his invitation to join the Council for lunch in
March. James said he was very much looking forward to attending OB Club
events in the future and meeting many OBs. On behalf of the Club, Sandy
wished James well when he and Rachel join the School prior to the
Autumn Term and said that the OB Club appreciates the ongoing support
of the School and the close relationship between the two organisations.

Summer Regatta dates
On 10th May, the 150th
Bedford Regatta will take place on the riverbank, with
the Enclosure being a rallying point for OBs, available to all on
purchasing a Regatta Programme. Many OBs will also have their classic
cars on show - visit the Bedford Regatta website if you are interested in showing your car. More info. On 2nd July, the School and OB Club are holding their
annual Reception at Henley
Royal Regatta, from 11am to 12.30pm. This is open to all
OBs, current and past parents and friends of the School; last year's
event was a very enjoyable occasion. Please confirm your attendance
to Bev Marshall. More info

OBs to visit Val Tidone
You have until the end of April to sign up for the next overseas OB
trip to a region of northern Italy which is less well known than
Tuscany or Piedmont but equally beautiful - and cheaper, with less
tourist congestion! OB Michael De Morgan (55-60) has planned a weekend
in Val Tidone, which will take us to historic towns, ancient castles,
food festivals and wineries. People on the recent trip to Normandy have
spoken of the fellowship and fun of going on an OB trip, so we hope you
can join us. More info

OB Battlefield Tour
A group of OBs, staff and friends of the School recently returned from
a fascinating trip to northern France to learn more about D-Day and the
Normandy Offensive. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each
other, visiting some key historic sites including Pegasus Bridge and
the Arromanches Mulberry Harbour, and cemeteries where some Old
Bedfordians rest. It was a lovely trip and we will certainly be running
more tours in the future. Read more and see the photos.

OBs at Citizenship
day
Thank you to OBs James Strode, James Stroomer, Sam Rayner, Oliver
English, Doug Worboys, Arran Peter, Ally Satchwill and Phil Ziya, who
came back to School on 18th March to speak to Upper Sixth about their
experience of the OB Club, and about University and work, as part of
the Citizenship programme. It was invaluable for the boys to get a real
insight into what life after school will be like.

Devizes
to Westminster
This Easter weekend Bedford School Canoe Club has entered two crews in
the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Marathon, and in the Senior Race this
year is former Director of Art and Master-in-Charge of Canoeing Rob
Campbell and OB Jerry Rogers (62-66). Last year the team managed the 34
miles in 6.5 hours, with near frost bite, broken boats and an impromptu
swim... We wish them all the best of luck!

OBs at Halford Hewitt
10th April saw the start of the annual old boys amateur golf tournament
with 64 teams and 640 competitors in total. Despite not 'bringing home
the bacon', it was a great week and a lot of fun; they almost made it
to the Sunday. OB Golf Society Secretary Iain Pratt (83-93) gives us
the round-up here.

OB Sports Weekend
Old Bedfordians of all ages joined to take on the School at fives,
squash, football, shooting and hockey over 22-23 March. One week prior,
the rowing took place, with OBs winning both races. Thank you to
everyone who took part. Some great photos were taken of the rowing and other sports.

Music Society events

premiere of The Pilgrim's Progress by Harvey Brough, the calendar of
Bedford School Music Society events for the summer term have been

School 1st XI Cricket
The summer term's fixtures have now been finalised and the list has been published online. OBs are very welcome to come back to Bedford School to
support the cricket teams - just come along to the Langham Pavilion on
the playing fields.

Dubai Reception
Over twenty OBs, staff and parents attended the reception, held
alongside the School Cricket Tour to the UAE. Tim Williams (69-80) did
a fantastic job organising his first OB event in the Gulf. If any OB
would like to organise a gathering in their area, the Club can provide
support and promote it amongst your local OBs - just get
in touch.

Singapore
Gathering
A very successful evening, with good steak and red wine, was organised
by DVP James Brodie (77-88). Ten OBs were still going strong after
midnight and more events are being planned for the future; more
expressing an interest but unable to make the date. Get in touch with James if you would like to hear about Singapore OB events.
