Dear Old Bedfordian
|
As we get closer to the end of this academic year, the OB Club Office has
been hard at work.
We
have been getting ready for the At Home, taking place on Saturday 5th
July - we're expecting a large number of OBs and guests (see the website for the list of those attending) but tickets are still
available here. Please book up as soon as possible.
We
have also been branching out with the type of events run by the Club and
by DVPs, with recent tours and Gardens visits as you will read below.
Looking further ahead, our new DVP for Surrey, Sussex and Kent, Michael
Stainer (56-66), has organised a tour of Chapel Down Winery and Vineyard in
Tenterden to find out more about English wines (read more) and the 'Harvest Supper for Farmers and Friends' at
Bedford School, for those in the farming and agriculture industry, estate
management or rural related businesses (read more).
Behind
the scenes we have been working on the OB Review, an annual alumni
publication sent to all Old Bedfordians. If you don't receieve yours over
the next week or two, this means we do not know your postal address so do
drop us a line to update us. Although a packed publication, it covers OB
activities from September to Easter only. Become a Subscriber to get the Ousel magazine too, which is the main OB and
School communication of the School.
Best
wishes,
Richard,
Gina and Alex

From the Head Master...
|
As
the Summer term, and academic year, comes to its final few weeks, it is,
as ever, a busy time. Please do explore the various events that are on
over the last two weeks. We would love to see you on the boundary, by a
river or at a concert or play. As the exam season draws to a close (IB
and GCSE now completed with a few A Level papers remaining...), it is
always nice to enjoy these events that bring the year to a fitting
close... Read the full Head Master's e-bulletin

Art Exhibition Opens
A team effort between the Art Department staff and OB Club saw the
opening evening of the first OB Art Exhibition on 6th June. We welcomed
back OBs and art staff, including those who hadn't been back since
leaving, to see the artworks by OBs in art-related careers and 40 of us
sat down to a dinner. See the photos here. The exhibition remains open to all until 5th July.

On 31 May, OBs from across Scotland and northern England united for a

We welcomed back Major General Tim Toyne Sewell (50-59) to Bedford on
22nd May, who supported a Rotary Club of Bedford function at the Rugby

£13,500 has been raised so far. Tim is pictured with Mark Chamberlain,
President of the Rotary Club of Bedford, and Rotarian Anthony Ormerod

Ickwell and
Shuttleworth
We enjoyed a memorable day at this DVP Bedfordshire event, with a
fascinating tour of the famous Shuttleworth Aircraft Collection, its
workshops and hangers. OB Peter Ganczakowski (64-75) joined us by
landing his own plane there! We moved to the School's Ickwell Study
Centre for a picnic lunch and a walking tour of this nature reserve
with the Master in Charge of Ickwell, Chris Jones, learning about
current and future projects including the producation of charcoal, and
a grass snake collection! See photos here.

Radcot House Garden
OB Robin (56-66) and Jeanne Stainer kindly hosted a visit to their
beautiful garden at Radcot House in Oxfordshire. We heard from our
hosts about the project from its infancy, their vision, their hard work
over many years and the challenges along the way. OBs and guests
explored the different areas of the garden in the sunshine, coming
across unusual sculptures and dramatic planting. In the afternoon we
enjoyed a picnic in the beautiful setting. See photos of the event here.
