Boarding and Day School for boys aged 7 - 18 years

1552 Club

“A legacy gift allows me to be really generous. Besides, as I will no longer need the money, I do not wish the Exchequer to have any more of my estate than necessary.”

W Roger Dalzell (48-57)

We appreciate and seek to recognise all those that intend to leave a legacy gift to the School. As such, anyone who advises us of their intention to leave a gift will automatically be welcomed as a Member of the 1552 Club. Members receive invitations to special events at the School and are given an early opportunity to learn of the School’s plans for its future.

The 1552 Club is so named after the year that Edward VI granted the letters patent to establish the School, is a prestigious group of people, united by their shared interest in the valued work of the School.

This is our opportunity to acknowledge and thank you during your lifetime. You can notify us of your gift using the Legacy Notification Form and if you wish, also let us know to what you want your gift applied. Each member receives a letter of appreciation and is invited with their partner each Autumn to the Founders and Benefactors Service. This is followed by the opportunity to meet the Head Master, Governors and senior staff over lunch as well as others who have made similar generous commitments.

As a member of the School’s 1552 Club, you will be remembered in the official roll of honour and in certain annual publications unless you direct that you would like to remain anonymous.

“In 2003 I notified the Foundation of a gift to Bedford School in my Will. As an 11+ scholarship boy from a hard-up local family, I benefitted enormously from my years at Bedford. They equipped me for a marvellous and diverse career. I want to leave help for other boys from families of limited means to have the same chance.”

Roy W Gamblin (56-60)
