OB Rugby Club

Bedford School rugby continues to grow from strength to strength with the 2009 XV recording an unbeaten season to sit along side the 1941, 1991 and 2000 unbeaten campaigns. The Old Bedfordian Rugby Club wishes to reflect the on going success of the schools rugby by bringing together team mates from all generations to take part in our broad range of fixtures.

The Club has recently attracted back one of the Schools most illustrious Old Boys, Andy Gomarsall, to take up the post of ‘President' of the OBRC.

The focus of the OBRC calendar is the annual OB match that in past years has seen a great wealth of talent return to their old 1st XV pitch. The annual match has taken a different stance from its traditional OB XV vs. 1st XV match due to insurance reasons. The game now consists of an under22 OB XV vs. an Over22 OB XV which takes place before the schools first home 1st XV fixture of the season in September. The event has proven to be a very popular since its launch in 2007. It provides an opportunity for OB’S off all ages to get together and encourage the renewal of old friendships and to continue the building of the OB community.

The OBRC also enters an U21XV side to the Cronk-Cunis tournament down in south London which is the largest national U21 rugby tournament for independent schools’ Old Boys. This tournament is great opportunity as it gathers younger generations of old boys who have recently joined their respective OB networks in a highly competitive competition. It acts a perfect platform for boys wishing to continue their rugby past schoolboy level to university or club rugby. It also provides those who have hung up their boots to blow out some cobwebs and enjoy the day.

The OB Lizards XV occasionally turn out against an Olney XV which the Club is keen to make a more regular fixture.
